Scribes now offer Proofreading Services!!

We all know business communication needs to be clear, concise and error free if it is to be effective and engage your clients/readers, but we sometimes forget that it can literally mean the difference between winning and losing business!! To assist with this problem, Scribes now offer proofreading services.

These services fall into four main categories:

  • Proofreading – checking for spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Formatting – more than just making sure the document is the same font. We check your margins, page setup, breaks, tables, lists, columns, graphics and even the number of spaces between each word to ensure that your document is consistent. If you would like us to create a style sheet for you and format your document from scratch, we can do that too.
  • Copyediting – checking for spelling and grammatical errors as well as checking a document for consistency of style (clarifying meaning and ensuring material is matched with your readers) and presentation of facts.
  • Re-writing – we can re-write your documents so that they are clear, coherent and consistent. We eliminate jargon and make sure plain English is used.

So how does it work?

Step 1 - Job Request
In order to give you an accurate estimate for your project, we will request to see a sample of the document. This helps us determine the level of editing required (light, medium or heavy) and influences the costing. When you send us a sample of your document, we can discuss what your needs might be, so that you fully understand the editing process and exactly how we will work with your document.

Step 2 - Quotation
You will receive an estimate for your project, along with the edited sample of your document.

Step 3 - Project Commencement
The entire document is received and proofreading is commenced.

Step 4 - Document Completion
You will receive two copies of your completed document: a 'marked up' version (so you can see the changes we have made) and a 'clean' version, ready for printing. You will also receive a 'job sheet' outlining your job specifications and some comments that may need to be actioned by you.

It is essential for businesses to ensure their documents are error-free, so whether your project is a training manual, a new brochure, a business proposal or a government tender submission, Scribes can work with you to ensure your document is perfect and your business reputation remains intact.

The Lighter Side

I know most of you have probably seen this passage before, but it never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to read – a great example of how simple it is to gloss over mistakes when proofreading.

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae.
